An evergreen shrub which grows to 1m in height producing light green flowers. A hardy plant that prefers a full sun position and dry conditions so a well draining soil is a must. Drought tolerant although seeds do require even moist soil for successful germinate.

An important medicinal herb used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine, Ashwagandha contains chemicals that might help calm the brain, reduce swelling, lower blood pressure, and strengthen the immune system after illness. Ashwagandha may also improve blood sugar, inflammation, mood, memory, stress, and anxiety, as well as a boost in muscle strength and fertility.

Ashwagandha has been shown to support a sluggish thyroid for people diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. It is also described in ayurvedic medicine, as a powerful aphrodisiac.

A tea, or decoction, is usually made to fully release the therapeutic compounds found in ashwagandha root,. Simply put one to two tsp into a small saucepan with one cup of water. Let the water boil, covered, and then reduce the heat so that it simmers for 10–15 minutes.
