Shaman Australis Botanicals

About Shaman Australis Botanicals

Shaman Australis Botanicals was founded by Torsten Wiedemann in 1998 for the purpose of making available and distributing rare ethnobotanical plants, seeds, herbs, and extracts. Situated in the Byron Bay hinterland of Mullumbimby, the nursery was located on the side of Mt Chincogan for the first 25 years.

Shaman Australis Botanicals, also known simply as SAB, organised, held, and sponsored ethnobotany conferences in the early 2000s at the Mullumbimby property, and later provided support for similar events, research, and relevant law reform.

The early 2000s saw the start of the Shaman Australis Botanicals forum, The Corroboree. The importance of the forum cannot be overstated, the connections the forum facilitated saw the emergence of many friendships, organisations, and individual careers within the psychedelic society, here in Australia and internationally.

In 2022 Torsten decided to move onto other projects and there was only one person he was comfortable handing his ‘baby’ to, Linda, who had been working for SAB since 2005, and managing the business since 2011. This ensured a smooth transition for the business and a continuation of the original mission Torsten set out to achieve in 1988.

Our Story

From the 1st of July 2023, Shaman Australis Botanicals was under new ownership. Linda Kirkland, together with her husband Paul, moved the business down the road to Alstonville which provides some of New South Wales’s most fertile soils, along with a climate highly suited to the sub-tropical species SAB specialises in.

The Kirkland family is committed in continuing the mission Shaman Australis Botanicals set out to achieve all those years ago, whilst still making a few changes here and there along the way. We hope that you will be part of our botanical journey with us.
