Description

Cyperus rotundus rhizome, commonly known as Xiang Fu or Nutgrass, has a long history of traditional use in Ayurvedic, Chinese, and Middle Eastern herbal medicine. The aromatic rhizomes are valued for their earthy fragrance and broad traditional applications.

Traditionally, Cyperus rotundus rhizome has been used to support healthy digestion, ease bloating and stomach discomfort, and promote appetite regulation. In Ayurveda it is often regarded as a balancing herb, particularly for calming excess heat and supporting menstrual comfort. Traditional Chinese Medicine commonly employs it for promoting healthy circulation of “Qi” and easing emotional tension or stress-related digestive upset.

Pharmacological studies have reported its neuroprotective, cardioprotective, hepatoprotective, antidiabetic, antiuropathogenic, and anticonvulsant properties. Modern alternative medicine also employs nutgrass for treating nausea, fever, inflammation, pain reduction, muscle relaxation, and various other disorders.

Nutgrass is known for its cooling properties and anti-inflammatory effects, which help soothe redness, breakouts, and inflamed skin. It is effective in treating severe skin conditions and is rich in fatty acids, vitamins, and flavonoids, all of which are beneficial for both skin and hair health.

How to use Xiang Fu
