Clitoria ternatea (Blue Butterfly Pea) Seed

Price range: $4.90 through $12.90

Description

Clitoria ternatea, known as Butterfly Pea, is a herbaceous perennial that is native to India and northern Africa. It is easy to grow, and beneficial for the garden due to producing edible blue flowers in under three months. The plant itself is drought hardy, fast growing and can tolerate a wide range of soils. Suitable for Sub-Tropical and Tropical climates but can be grown as an annual in cooler regions.

Butterfly Pea tea brews up a brilliant blue colour and is commonly used in cocktails, to make Ink Gin, and added to desserts for extra flare. Add citrus and watch the colour change. It has a floral, mildly sweet flavour, somewhat like that of chamomile.

Benefits of Butterfly Pea Tea.
  • This herb not only provides an aesthetic and enjoyable tea, but it also has many medicinal uses. A cup of Butterfly Pea tea every day can help reduce fatigue and stress, bringing about a sense of calm due to the herbs anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.
  • It has been widely used in traditional medicine, particularly as a supplement to enhance cognitive functions and alleviate symptoms of numerous ailments including fever, inflammation, pain, diabetes, and migraines. It may also assist with lowering blood pressure and be used as a diuretic. Blue tea contains catechins, which are said to be instrumental in burning belly fat and aiding weight loss.
  • Clitoria ternatea contains an antioxidant called proanthocyanin, which increases blood flow to the capillaries of the eyes, useful in treatment of glaucoma, blurred vision, retinal damage or tired eyes. Butterfly Peas antioxidants stimulate collagen and elastin synthesis, which helps rejuvenate the skin and lessen wrinkles and other signs of ageing.
