Turbina corymbosa (Ololiuqui) Plant

Description

Turbina corymbosa, commonly known as Ololiuqui, is a vigorous perennial woody vine native to Mexico, Central and South America, including Peru. It can grow to approximately 10 metres in length, with slender, woody, branching stems that readily twine around surrounding vegetation or supports. The glossy green, heart-shaped leaves provide an attractive backdrop to its delicate white, trumpet-shaped flowers, which measure approximately 4 cm across. The flowers develop into soft, woody capsules containing a single seed.

Ololiuqui thrives in rich, moist, well-drained soil in a protected position with plenty of sunlight. It is drought and frost tender and benefits from protection from prolonged dry conditions and cold temperatures.

Ideal Growing Conditions.

Turbina corymbosa plants prefers rich, moist, free draining soils in a protected, sunny position. It is drought and frost tender.

Pruning: Turbina corymbosa is a vigorous tropical climbing vine that benefits from regular pruning to keep it manageable and encourage dense healthy growth.

Pests and Diseases: Monitor your plant for pests like aphids or spider mites. Turbina corymbosa is generally fairly resilient, but like many fast-growing tropical vines it can attract common sap-sucking pests, especially in warm humid weather. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap, Eco Oil or Neem Oil

Soil: You need a high quality potting mix, not a pre-bagged product such as you find at Bunnings etc, try a landscaping place. However, as I am not local to you I still can’t say if they have good quality or not. You are looking for well composted pine bark and large particles. This ensures air flow to the roots and good drainage.

We recommend Yates Nutricote Standard Black 270 Day for a fertiliser, which can be found in our store, however any good quality slow release fertiliser will do. When time to re-pot, select a pot one size up ONLY and ensure it has many holes for good drainage.
