Description
Hylocereus costaricensis, also known as Red Dragon Fruit or Pitaya, is a stunning climbing cactus prized for its vibrant red flesh and refreshing tropical flavour. Native to Central America, this fast-growing cactus produces spectacular night-blooming flowers followed by sweet, antioxidant-rich fruit that is both delicious and highly nutritious.
Easy to grow in warm climates, Hylocereus costaricensis thrives in well-drained soil, full sun to part shade, and benefits from a climbing support such as a trellis or post. It’s drought-tolerant once established, making it a hardy and rewarding addition to home gardens, food forests, and edible landscapes.
This ground dwelling cacti has slender stems that requires trees, rocks or support frame to vine itself upwards. It’s vibrant red fleshed, red skinned fruit resembles a mixture of strawberries and watermelon.
