Shaman Australis Botanicals

Erythroxylum vaccinifolium (Catuaba) Bark Powder

Price range: $16.90 through $65.90

Description

In Brazilian tradition, catuaba has earned a reputation for enhancing vitality, stamina, and libido. Beyond its aphrodisiac qualities, it has also been valued for calming the nerves, reducing fatigue, and supporting mental clarity, making it a general restorative in folk medicine.

Modern research has begun to explore these traditional uses, with studies indicating that compounds in catuaba—such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and terpenes—may contribute to its effects. The so-called “catuabine” alkaloids are of particular interest, as they may have stimulating and neuroprotective properties. While scientific evidence is still limited and mostly preliminary, findings suggest possible benefits for memory, mood, and resilience against mental fatigue.

How to Brew Catuaba Tea

To prepare an infusion of Catuaba, place 1 tsp. of the powdered bark in a tea ball or gauze bag and allow it steep in 8 oz. of freshly boiled hot water in a covered pot for 10–15 minutes. Pour the infusion through a fine strainer to remove any sediment and allow it to cool for a time before drinking. Refrigerate unused portions in a well- sealed container.
