Description
Eleutherococcus senticosus, commonly known as Siberian Ginseng dried root, is an Asian herb that has been used for thousands of years as a healing remedy in folk medicine. It’s common name, Siberian Ginseng, has been changed to Eleuthero in past years to avoid confusion with true ginseng, which is the Panax genus.
However in saying that, eleuthero is a relative of ginseng. It grows in the same Asian regions and has similar effects, however true ginsengs are more prized for their better-researched health effects. True ginseng is also much more expensive than eleuthero. Today, Eleutherococcus senticosus is sometimes used as a cheaper, though potentially less effective, ginseng replacement.
Siberian Ginseng dried root is known as an adaptogen, which are botanicals thought to protect the body from the effects of stress. This herb is also taken for its notable physical effects, for example, some athletes use Siberian Ginseng to enhance athletic performance, while others take it to get through physically demanding work days.
Other uses include heart disease prevention, anxiety relief, depression relief, and recovery from stress burnout.
