Description

Agave parryi var. huachucensis ‘Wakefield’ is a striking cultivar of the Parry’s agave, prized for its bold form, symmetry, and cold hardiness. It is a slow-growing, compact succulent that adds architectural beauty to desert-style gardens and rock landscapes.

Agave parryi var. huachucensis ‘Wakefield’ are a dense, symmetrical rosette with a classic agave silhouette. The rosettes grow up to 60–90 cm tall and wide. The leaves are broad, blue-grey to silver leaves with defined edges, tipped with dark terminal spines. The blooms are rare, and only once at maturity (after many years), producing a tall flowering stalk with yellow flowers. The ‘Wakefield’ selection is noted for its particularly robust form and attractive coloration.

This agave is excellent for xeriscaping, rock gardens, containers, or as a focal specimen.

Germination Tips: To germinate Agave parryi var. huachucensis ‘Wakefield’ seeds it is best to use a container with drainage holes. Layer with high quality potting mix and top layer with zeolite – layers of 2 cm each is fine. Sow seeds on top of the moist zeolite, cover seeds with a thin layer. Place the container somewhere warm, but not exposed to direct sunlight. The temperature needed for Agave to germinate is 25°C and above.
