Silene undulata (African Dream Root) Root Powder

Description

Silene undulata, commonly known as African Dream Root, is a traditional medicinal plant native to southern Africa. For centuries, it has been used by the Xhosa people and other indigenous communities as a sacred botanical valued for its connection to dreams, spiritual practices, and overall wellbeing.

The root is the most prized part of the plant and is traditionally prepared as a powder, infusion, or foaming drink. In traditional use, African Dream Root has been taken to promote vivid dreams, support dream recall, and encourage a deeper connection with the dream state. It has also been used as a calming herbal remedy.

While modern scientific research on Silene undulata remains limited, its long history of traditional use has made it one of the most sought-after ethnobotanical plants for those interested in dreamwork, meditation, and traditional African herbal practices.

Today, Silene undulata Root Powder is valued by herbal enthusiasts, ethnobotanical collectors, and those seeking to explore one of Africa’s most renowned traditional dream herbs.

Usage

Traditionally, African Dream Root powder is mixed with water and vigorously stirred or whisked until a thick foam forms on the surface. The foam is then consumed, while the remaining liquid may also be drunk.

Traditional Preparation:

1. Add approximately 250–500 mg of root powder to a glass of water.
2. Stir, whisk, or shake vigorously until a layer of foam develops.
3. Consume the foam and, if desired, the remaining liquid.
4. Traditionally taken in the morning on an empty stomach over several consecutive days.

Alternative Methods:

• Encapsulate the powder and swallow with water.
• Mix the powder into a small amount of juice or another beverage.
• Prepare as a mild infusion by steeping in water.

Because individual sensitivity varies, it is generally recommended to begin with a small amount and gradually adjust if desired. The root powder has a bitter taste and may cause mild stomach discomfort in some individuals.
