Salvia hispanica, commonly known as black chia, is a flowering plant in the mint family (Lamiaceae). Native to Central and Southern Mexico and Guatemala, it produces tiny oval seeds that range from black to grey with mottled markings. Chia seeds are highly valued for their nutritional profile and have been cultivated for thousands of years as both a food and medicinal plant.

 

Approx. 700 seeds per gram.

 

Germination Tips: Sow Salvia hispanica seed direct or into punnets. Cover lightly with soil 3-5mm and keep moist. Seeds will germinate in 5-10 days at a soil temp. of 21-26°C
