Description
Plinia cauliflora, commonly known as Jaboticaba, is a unique and highly ornamental tropical fruit tree native to Brazil, best known for its unusual fruiting habit where grape-like fruits grow directly from the trunk and main branches.
The tree is evergreen with dense, glossy foliage and smooth, mottled bark, making it an attractive feature plant even when not in fruit. Jabuticaba produces round, dark purple to black fruits with soft, juicy, translucent flesh and a sweet, mildly floral flavour, traditionally enjoyed fresh or used in jams, wines, liqueurs, and desserts.
Flowering occurs directly on the trunk and older wood, producing clusters of small white, fluffy flowers that may appear multiple times throughout the year under ideal conditions. While seed-grown plants can take several years to fruit, established trees are long-lived and can become highly productive. With proper care, jabuticaba is a rewarding and distinctive addition to any edible or ornamental garden.

Ideal Growing Conditions.
Jabuticaba is well suited to warm temperate, subtropical, and tropical climates, jabuticaba thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers a sheltered position protected from strong winds. It grows best in rich, organic, slightly acidic soil and requires consistent moisture, particularly during flowering and fruit development. Regular watering and mulching are essential, as the plant does not tolerate drying out. Jabuticaba can be successfully grown in the ground or in large containers, making it suitable for home gardens, courtyards, and patios.
Pests and Diseases: Monitor your plant for pests like scale, aphids or fruit fly (when fruiting). Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap, Eco Oil or Neem Oil
Soil: You need a high quality potting mix, not a pre-bagged product such as you find at Bunnings etc, try a landscaping place. However, as I am not local to you I still can’t say if they have good quality or not. You are looking for well composted pine bark and large particles. This ensures air flow to the roots and good drainage. We recommend Yates Nutricote Standard Black 270 Day for a fertiliser, which can be found in our store, however any good quality slow release fertiliser will do. When time to re-pot, select a pot one size up ONLY and ensure it has many holes for good drainage.
