Eucalyptus cinerea (Silver Dollar Gum) Seed

Price range: $4.90 through $12.90

Description

Eucalyptus cinerea, commonly known as Silver Dollar Gum, is a medium-sized Australian native tree valued for its ornamental silver-blue foliage. It typically grows 10–15 metres tall with a spreading habit, though it may reach up to 25 m in ideal conditions.

Renowned for its striking round juvenile leaves, this fast-growing Australian native is a favourite for landscaping, cut foliage, and floral arrangements. The juvenile leaves are rounded and coin-shaped, while mature foliage becomes elongated and lance-like. The bark is rough and fibrous, and clusters of creamy-white flowers appear in spring and summer, attracting bees, birds, and other pollinators.

Fast-growing and hardy, E. cinerea thrives in full sun and well-drained soils, tolerates light frost, and becomes drought resistant once established. It responds well to pruning and coppicing, making it popular for cut foliage, floristry, and garden use.

Approx. 800 seeds per gram.

Common Name: Argyle Apple; Mealy Stringybark

Germination Tips: Sow Eucalyptus cinerea seed in a seed-raising mix just below the surface. Soaking seeds for 24 hours can help soften the seed coat and encourage germination. Water with a fine mist spray to avoid disturbance of the seed. Germination generally occurs in around 10-28 days.
