Description
Capsicum annuum ‘Serrano’ is a thin-walled medium to very hot chilli popular in Mexican and Thai cooking. Serrano-type chilli peppers are bullet-shaped peppers that turn from green to red when ripe and are used in a variety of Mexican and Thai dishes. Their SHU levels range from 2,500-8,000.
Although the species name annuum means “annual”, the plant is not an annual but is frost tender. In the absence of winter frosts it can survive several seasons and grow into a large, shrubby perennial herb. C. annuum’s are especially productive in warm and dry climates.
Germination Tips: To germinate Capsicum annuum ‘Serrano’ seeds, sow in light, well-drained soil medium. Keep in a warm location at a temperature of at least 16 C until the seeds sprout in 16 to 20 days. Keep moist, but not wet.
