Achillea millefolium, commonly known as Yarrow, is a hardy, herbaceous perennial renowned for its feathery foliage, clusters of long-lasting flowers, and extensive history in traditional herbalism. Native to Europe, Asia, and North America, it has become naturalised throughout much of the world and is a popular addition to cottage gardens, pollinator gardens, and medicinal herb collections.

Yarrow forms clumps of finely divided, fern-like leaves that give rise to upright stems topped with flat clusters of small flowers. While wild forms typically produce white blooms, cultivated varieties are available in shades of pink, red, yellow, and cream. Plants generally grow between 30–90 cm tall and spread gradually through rhizomes.

The species name millefolium means “thousand leaves,” referring to its finely dissected foliage.

Yarrow is a widespread medicinal plant used in folk medicine to treat inflammation, pain and gastrointestinal disorders. Yarrow it said to have healing effects of the mucous membranes, reducing inflammation. Yarrow might also assist as a diuretic and increase perspiration.
