Acacia neurophylla ssp erugata (Wattle) Seed

Price range: $4.90 through $12.90

Description

Acacia neurophylla subsp. erugata is a subspecies of Acacia neurophylla, a shrub or small tree that is native to southwest Western Australia. This plant typically grows to a height of 1-5m and is characterised by its erect form. The phyllodes (leaf-like structures) of this subspecies are usually 10-18.5 cm long with three prominent nerves and several finer ones. The pulvinus (the swollen part at the base of the phyllode) is 3-5 mm long and flared at the base, with a smooth or slightly wrinkled texture.

The flower heads of Acacia neurophylla subsp. erugata are yellow and measure 2-5 cm in length. They are borne on glabrous peduncles that are 3-5 mm long. This subspecies blooms from May to November and thrives in habitats with yellow sand and laterite, commonly found in scrub and shrubland regions.

Geographically, it is distributed from Cooloomia Homestead southeast to Kondinin and Bulla Bulling, around 30 km east of Coolgardie, Western Australia. This subspecies is not considered threatened and is noted for its resilience in the subtropical biome of its native range.

Approx. 200 seeds per gram.

Germination Tips: To increase the germination rate you should treat the neurophylla ssp erugata seed first. Soaked in hot water or the seed can be nicked or scarred. This will allow water to penetrate the seed’s hard coating and induce germination. Use a sandy free draining soil mix and place in a warm area.
