Description

Acacia holosericea, commonly known as Soapbush Wattle, is a spreading shrub native to tropical and inland northern Australia. It grows approx. 3 metres by 4 metres with large, obovate, very glaucous phyllodes.

Acacia holosericea bears bright yellow rod-shaped flowers 3-5cm long. Masses of twisted pods are a feature of the plant even after the seed has fallen. The leaves are ovate-lanceolate, 10–25 cm long and 2–9 cm wide, covered with white silky hairs, with 3 to 4 prominent veins.

Generally adaptable in cultivation, responds to sunny, reasonably well drained positions in most soils. Spectacular foliage plant for mild areas. Prune regularly to maintain rounded shape. Grows very quickly.

Common Name: Strap Wattle; Candelabra Wattle; Silver Wattle; Silver Leaf Wattle.

Germination Tips: To increase the germination rate you should treat the seed first. Soaked in hot water, or the seed can be nicked or scarred. This will allow water to penetrate the seed’s hard coating and induce germination. Use a sandy free draining soil mix and place in a warm area.
