Description
Acacia dealbata, known as Silver Wattle or Mimosa, due to it sharing the same fern-like blueish foliage, is an attractive medium to large flowering tree or shrub, growing up to 30 metres.
Acacia dealbata is native to south-eastern Australia in New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, and the Australian Capital Territory and widely introduced in Mediterranean, warm temperate, and highland tropical landscapes.
Silver Wattle retains the fern-like, bipinnate foliage throughout their lives and is usually bluish-grey in colour. The plant has smooth, greyish green to dark grey bark which becomes fissured with age. In late Winter to mid Spring it produces masses of fragrant, ball-shaped, fluffy pale to bright yellow flowers. Excellent for cut flowers.
Approx. 75 seeds per gram.
Common Name: Blue Wattle
Germination Tips: To increase the germination rate of Acacia dealbata seed, the seed should be treated first. It can be soaked in hot water or the seed can be nicked or scarred so that water will penetrate the seed’s hard coating and induce germination. Use a sandy free draining soil mix and place in a warm area.
