Description

Acacia aphylla, commonly known as reindeer wattle, is a species of Acacia which is endemic to an area around Perth in Western Australia. A threatened species that is rare in the wild. A leafless, erect, and widely branching shrub that grows to 0.9 to 3m in height and a width of up to 2m. Unlike most Acacia the phyllodes are absent for A. aphylla.

Acacia aphylla foliage is quite extraordinary and unique, giving the appearance that it will be prickly but in fact is soft to touch. Its twisted blue-grey stem is many-branching and leafless, with small yellow ball shaped flowers occurring late winter through to mid spring.

The thickened blue-green wiry stems have the ability to photosynthesize like leaves. This gives the plant an evolutionary adaptation that greatly reduces the total surface area for water loss through transpiration.

Common name: Leafless Rock Wattle; Twisted Desert Wattle; Live Wire.

Germination Tips: To increase the germination rate you should treat the seed first. Soaked in hot water, or the seed can be nicked or scarred. This will allow water to penetrate the seed’s hard coating and induce germination. Use a sandy free draining soil mix and place in a warm area.

Our Guarantee

We personally count every seed packet to ensure it contains at least the specified number of seeds. However, mistakes can happen, so please reach out if you notice any inconsistencies.

These seeds are believed to meet the standard viability percentage for their species, sourced either from our own SAB nursery or from reputable, trusted breeders.

Do not hesitate to contact us for up-to-date germination rates or for a germination test to be conducted.
