Description

Acacia acuminata, broad phyllode variant, is a species of Acacia native to Australia and grows as a tall shrub or small tree. In ideal conditions Acacia acuminata may grow to a height of 10m, but more commonly averages 3-7m.

Acacia acuminata is a tree with linear to narrowly elliptic green to bluish-green phyllodes. Acacia acuminata flowers, which bloom near the ends of the branches, are golden yellow, rod shaped and about 2.5 cm long.

Acacia acuminata contains psychoactive compounds such as dimethyltryptamine (DMT), making it of interest to researchers for its potential psychoactive properties.

In its natural habitat, Acacia acuminata thrives in well-drained soils and prefers sunny to partly shaded locations. Endemic to Western Australia, it occurs throughout the south west of the State and is common in the Wheatbelt. It is well-adapted to arid and semi-arid climates, making it a resilient addition to gardens and landscapes in regions with similar environmental conditions.

Germination Tips: To increase the germination rate you should treat the seed first. Soaked in hot water or the seed can be nicked or scarred. This will allow water to penetrate the seed’s hard coating and induce germination. Use a sandy free draining soil mix and place in a warm area.
