The genus Leonotis is a flowering plant in the family Lamiaceae. One species, Leonotis nepetifolia, is native to tropical Africa and southern India. It is naturalized throughout most of the tropics and is now concerned a weed by many states and territories in Western Countries. The other species are endemic to southern and eastern Africa. Most species of Leonotis have some traditional use as smoking herbs. The herb and flowers are dried and either used as a smoking herb or extracted to make a resin which can be smoked.
